Sunshine Stars accept Eguavoen’s resignation

The management of Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) clubside, Sunshine Stars has accepted the resignation of coach Austin Eguavoen as the head coach of the Akure-based side.

The former Super Eagles coach who joined the Owena Waves late in April left his post due to what he called “frustrating performance of Nigerian referees’’.

The club in a statement signed by its Media Officer, Chris Okunnuwa, a copy made available to SportingLife, appreciated the former national team captain for his time with the club and wished him the best in the future.

“In view of this development, Sunshine Stars FC Management has appointed the club’s former assistant coach, Akin Olowookere as the Interim Head Coach. The former junior international will be assisted by coach Ogunderu Boye.

“The appointment takes immediate effect,” the statement read in part.

Sunshine played five games with Eguavoen in charge, winning two and losing three.

Eguavoen joins other coaches including Nduka Ugbade (Remo Stars), Godwin Uwua (Lobi Stars), Imama Amapakabo (Enugu Rangers), Mohammed Baba Ganaru (Wikki Tourists), Kadiri Ikhana (Kano Pillars) and Okey Emordi (Abia Warriors) that have been shown the exit door this 2016/2017 NPFL season.
