The Coalition of Northern Youths which, last week, asked the Igbo residing in the North to quit, has accused rival groups in the region of impersonation.
Spokesman for the coalition, Abdulazeez Suleiman, claimed yesterday that some fellows from the north but who lack the coalition’s mandate are trying to turn their cause into a money-making opportunity.
Suleiman was the spokesman who expressed the contents of the northern youths’ anti-Biafra statement tagged the ‘Kaduna Declaration’.
He alleged that the individuals are obtaining funds from some unnamed personalities and planning press conferences in Kaduna towards countering the coalition’s ‘Kaduna Declaration’ made against pro-Biafra people few days ago.
In the statement titled ‘BEWARE OF IMPERSONATORS’, he stated that the position of the coalition is merely to demand that everyone concerned should “open the doors for the Biafrans who have already carved out a new country for themselves.”
He said: “It has come to the notice of this Coalition that some people have been sponsored and are holding press conferences around Kaduna in our name.
“We state categorically that these people are never part of us and have not at any time been mandated to speak on our behalf.
“While we restate our commitment to the respect for Nigerian laws, we also reaffirm our stand by the Kaduna Declaration.
“The public should note that we are not out to extort money from individuals, groups or government agencies the way these people are doing in the name of negotiation.
“Our coalition restates its commitment to lasting peace in our dear country, Nigeria which forms the basis for our decision to open the doors for the Biafrans who have already carved out a new country for themselves.
“It is the enemies of the North and northerners that are sponsoring the spread of all sorts of lies through these greedy youth that impersonate us.’’
