Group donates N1m food to less privileged

An Islamic organisation, the Ja’amatu Ta’awunil Muslimeen has distributed food items, cash and other basic needs worth N1million to over 600 widows and other less-privileged in Iwo community, Osun State.

Its founder and National President, Sheikh Dauda Imran Molaasan said the gesture was part of the organisation’s objectives to complement government’s efforts in eradicating poverty and hunger in the society.

Molaasan who advocated support for government through social protection programmes, said the organisation was established to eradicate the problem of ignorance and illiteracy among Muslims.

The group on Sunday commissioned an ultra-modern technical and vocational training centre worth in Iwo.

Sheikh Molaasan said the complex was part of efforts to refine the society and empower humanity.

He said Ta’awunil brought to limelight need to raise the best set of people through purification and salvation of souls.

He held that the organisation has been working hard in line with its objectives to eradicate discrimination against any Muslim who believes in Allah and His Apostle.

He said: “What we are doing today is in furtherance of our commitment to wage war against poverty, banish hunger and ameliorate suffering among the people most importantly Muslims.

“This is the prominent part of our activities that centres on the need to assist the needy most especially the widows, widowers, orphans, vulnerable and the less-privileged in the society.

“We have been doing this in the last 24 years because the organisation sees this gesture as the only way to revive the lost glory of charity, alms giving and support for humanity in the society.

“Our organisation always gives out foods items to the people irrespective of socio-religious backgrounds. This is also part of efforts to organise the seemingly uncoordinated Muslim youths by assembling them to achieve the required and desired forces for the Ummah.”

He said the organisation believed strongly on the power of social intervention programme, an initiative he said would continue to solve the problems of class enslavement and primordial hegemony in the society.
