A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Grand Patron, Progressive Solidarity Forum , Dr. Ibrahim Emokpaire has said that there is no faction within the APC.
Speaking to reporters in Lagos, the APC chieftain said the party is still as formidable as it was in 2015, insisting that it would repeat the same feat in 2019. While recognizing differences among the members of the party, he said; “There is no faction anywhere apart from little wrangling in different places here and there, definitely there is nothing like faction.” He argued that the membership of the party has continued to soar as a result of daily defection into the party from other parties.
He, however, advised the party to stand by its ideology and be wary of defectors who do not share the ideology of the party. “Where anything goes, I don’t subscribe to that and the leadership of the party needs to sit up and start working with the government.” According to him, APC has done completely well in the areas of its fight against corruption, security and the economy.
According to Emokpaire, though the economy is sluggish, it would have been better if the treasury had not been looted by the last administration. On the quest for June 12, to be Democracy Day, Emokpaire said he was optimistic that the government would one day recognize the sacrifice Nigerians made for democracy.
“We must understand that people died to enjoy this democracy we’re enjoying today. We know a number of people that died as a result of June 12. The army rolled out armoury to kill innocent souls on the streets of Lagos because of June 12. MKO Abiola died on June 12, that was the freest election Nigerians ever experienced.
