The Federal Government has raised a local organising committee as part of measures to end farmers/herdsmen clashes. The committee is to organise a national livestock conference to find sustainable ways to end the menace.
The committee is expected to design implementable structures to check the attacks, and increase cattle breeding in the country.
The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Audu Ogbeh, who spoke during the inauguration yesterday, said the committee would “keep our cattle in secured colonies to help us curtail incessant farmers/herdsmen clashes, and embark on systematic cattle breed improvement”.
Ogbeh said there was a need to expand the audience to consider the technical recommendations of the policy dialogue. According to him, neighbour-countries are also confronted with similar challenges.
He urged the committee to consider the Kaduna recommendations while organising the national conference on livestock, and agree on sustainable solutions.
Committee chair Dr. Gidion Mshebwala assured Ogbeh that members will adopt their collective skills and experience to organise the conference.
