PDP kicks as APC wins Ashafa polling unit

The All Progressives Congress (APC) won in Iwerekun II polling unit, in Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area, where the lawmaker representing Lagos East in the Senate, Senator Gbenga Ashafa, hails from. APC candidates polled 987 votes each, beating their rivals in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who scored seven votes each.

After casting his ballots, Sen. Ashafa said: “Our party doesn’t have opposition in Ibeju-Lekki and every part of the state, because people at the grassroots identify with and support our programmes. This election is very important as we make efforts to bring more development to our people. Today’s election is satisfactory.”

But chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area, Mr. Ajetunmobi Abudu Saheed, said the election was a charade, alleging that there was possible collaboration between the electoral commission and the ruling party in the state.

He said: “We have observed irregularities in this election and it would not be wrong to describe the whole exercise as a charade. Bogije Polling Station is supposed to have five polling units. But, LASIEC staff are only present in two polling units – Bogije 1 and II.”
