Bida Poly Alumni want removal of BSC/HND dichotomy among staff

The Alumni Association of the Federal Polytechnic Bida has appealed to management of the institution to effect the removal of dichotomy between holders of university degrees and HND holders from the institution as directed by the federal government.

It would be recalled that the federal government recently announced the removal of the dichotomy between holders of university degrees and HND holders from polytechnics after many years of agitation.

President of the Federal Polytechnic Bida Alumni Association, Mr. Koce Henry Doko, lamented that the polytechnic itself discriminates against its own products when they seek employment after graduation.

Speaking to newsmen in Bida yesterday on the 40th anniversary of the institution being orgnised by the Alumni Association, Koce called for the removal of HND graduates being employed as instructors, stating that they should be employed as lecturers.

“The major challenge Federal Polytechnic Bida is facing is the issue of discriminating against its own products. We are worried as workers of this institution who are also Alumn are placed below the graduates of universities. The situation here is that you are a product of this school, you are working here but you are still regarded by the same system as being inferior to university graduates. When a university graduate is employed, he is given the post of a lecturer but when an HND graduate is employed, he is employed as an instructor, he can only convert to lecturer after his PGD.

On the Founder’s Day celebration, Koce said the anniversary would begin on the 27th of July and end on the 30th. He added that activities for the anniversary include road-walk, Jumat prayer, novelty March, lecture, award and dinner night and thanksgiving prayers in churches.
