Lagos monarch denies backing opposition against APC’s candidates

The Onikosi of Ikosi, Oba Samuel Alamu Oloyede, has denied backing the opposition against the candidates of  All Progressives’ Congress (APC) during the recently concluded local government elections in Ikosi/Isheri Local Council Development Area.

Speaking with The Nation yesterday, Oba Oloyede described the allegations of partisanship against him as malicious and wicked, noting that he has always canvassed for the support of the Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s administration in the state.

He said: “There is no iota of truth in the allegations at all. I am a traditional ruler and not a politician. I did not back the opposition against the candidates of APC before or during the election. As a matter of fact, before the election, I hosted the chairmanship candidate of the APC in my palace and prayed for his success and that of the party during the election. Governor Akinwunmi Ambode has been very good to us in Ikosiland. Ambode has built for us six good roads within the last two years, to which I will forever be grateful.

“Before the election, I had warned all the aspirants during a meeting to desist from engaging in acts capable of causing a breach of peace and disharmony in Ikosiland, especially some of them who are indigenes of my community. Unfortunately,  one Owolabi Taiwo, one of the grandchildren of my predecessor, Oba Bamgbade Taiwo, who defected to  Accord Party after he lost the chairmanship ticket of APC to the incumbent chairman of the council area is being mischievously used by my detractors to create the impression that I supported the opposition against the ruling party in the state.
