Buhari’s supporters dance at Abuja fountain

•Anti-President’s protesters fault media aides’ visit to London

Souths shouting ‘Sai Buhari’ again stormed the Unity Fountain, Abuja yesterday in buses to demonstrate their support for President Muhammadu Buhari.

Before their arrival, huge bags of water sachets were kept at the garden for their refreshment.

An entertainment company played loud Hausa songs from speakers mounted on a mini truck as the supporters danced.

A youth, Ahmed Hong, who was part of the pro-Buhari group, declared his support for the President, saying he had not done anything wrong.

He said Buhari should be allowed to recuperate “since he has handed over to the Acting President, who is doing well”.

Another Buhari’s supporter, who gave his name as Abdulrahman Daura, insisted that the #ResumeOrResign campaigners could not stampede Buhari into abandoning his treatment to return to the country.

“We are the youths; 11 people protesting against the President cannot force him to resume or resign,” he said.

But it was a day that the #OurMumuDonDo protesters faulted the pictures and video of President Muhammadu Buhari released last Saturday by the Presidency.

The group said the “showmanship” was meant to deceive Nigerians.

Buhari on Saturday received members of his media team led by the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, at the Abuja House, London.

The #ResumeOrResign pressure group said Acting President Yemi Osinbajo was incapacitated by “the cabal” and was not allowed to govern the country effectively.

Speaking to reporters during the eighth day of their sit-out, the leader of the #OurMumuDonDo movement, Charlie Boy, said he watched the video several times and “I could see through the deceit and lies”.

The maverick artist said the presidential media aides, who released the pictures and videos after visiting the President in London, were pressured to go to the United Kingdom (UK) because of his coalition’s protests.

He said: “We forced the FEC (Federal Executive Council) to hurriedly send some media aides to London to showcase the President. I watched the video several times and I could see the deceit and the lies.

“The President is fragile and frail; we saw a man who wants to be left alone; we saw a man who wants to rest but for the cabal. If anything happens to him, we would hold the cabal responsible; we would call them out, name them and ensure they are prosecuted.”

The protest’s convener, Deji Adeyanju, insisted that his group simply wanted the President to disclose his health status, adding that plans had been concluded for protests in London, Lagos and Port Harcourt on Wednesday.

The #ResumeOrResign had barely concluded their sit-out when the youths shouting ‘Sai Buhari’ arrived at the Unity Fountain to demonstrate their support for the ailing President.
