Suspects held in community crisis

Edo State Police Command said several suspects were arrested in connection with the crisis in Oghoghobi in which a former youth chairman was killed and the palace of the ruler razed.

The former youth Chairman, Mr. Lambert Igbinomwahia, popularly known as ‘let them say,’ was killed by gunmen at his residence.

Angry villagers accused the monarch, Kingsley Omorose, of sponsoring the killing.

They burnt his palace, and destroyed other property belonging to the traditional ruler.

Speaking to reporters, Police Commissioner Haliru Gwandu said some suspects were arrested.

Gwandu added that preliminary investigation showed the crisis followed the ban on activities of the Community Development Association.

The commissioner noted that the ban didn’t go down well with some members of the community.

He said the police have been investigating disputes in the community involving the deceased and some residents.
