Human Development Initiative (HDI), a non-governmental organization has trained 50 members of the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (LSUBEB) on technical knowledge of administering standard education at the primary level.
HDI Executive Director Olufunso Owansonye said the initiative was in response to the increasing demand for accessible and improved education, particularly among vulnerable classes of orphans and widows’ children.
She said investment in human capacity development of education administrators would not only strengthen educational institutions but also contain the high illiteracy syndrome in the populace.
“The workshop is organised to add colour to your effectiveness and efficiency in the performance of your day to day administrative functions and seeks to entrench the core values of clarity, transparency and accountability in service, which are prerequisite for growth and sustainable development.
“Officials at the helms of educational affairs can give a child a robust academic life, which is why we want to enhance their capacity to strengthen what they already know and make them more effective in improving the quality of education,” Oronsaye said.
She further charged the government on the need to increase educational funding, noting that some schools were still short of teachers.
Prof Yemisi Obasoro-John, who exposed participants to components of managerial skills, said resource managers must ensure they carry out measurement and evaluation of their activities to ensure it aligns with organisational objectives.
She said apart from acquiring requisite professional training and experience, an effective manager must demonstrate a blend of technical and people knowledge to deliver results.
