The police yesterday arraigned six men at a Wuse Zone 2 Senior Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, suspected to be members of a criminal gang that specialised in snatching bags at a black spot in Wuye, FCT.
The suspects are standing trial on a two-count charge bordering on belonging to a criminal gang and criminal conspiracy. They denied committing the offences.
The prosecutor, Mr. Donatus Abah, gave the names of the suspects as: Nura Ibrahim, Musa Abdullahi, Bashir Lawal, Biliyaminu Garba, Yahaya Mohammed and Abba Mohammed.
He told the court that the suspects were arrested on August 19 by a police patrol team attached to Wuye Police Division.
The prosecutor said during investigation, the suspects confessed to be members of a criminal gang, which specialised in snatching bags at Wuye.
He said the offences contravened the provisions of sections 406, 96 and 306 of the Penal Code
The Magistrate, Eremasi Ebiwari, granted the defendants bail at N200, 000 each, with one surety each in like sum and adjourned the case till September 12 for hearing.
