Suspected Fulani herdsmen invade Falae’s farm again

Hoodlums suspected to be Fulani herdsmen yesterday invaded the Ilado farm of the former Secretary to the Federal Government (SGF), Chief Olu Falae, near Akure, the Ondo State capital.

Sources said crops estimated at millions of naira were destroyed as the herdsmen were grazing their cattle on the farm.

The Publicity Secretary of pan-Yoruba socio-cultural group, Afenifere, Yinka Odumakin, addressed reporters in Akure after the monthly meeting of the association at the home of its leader, Chief Reuben Fasoranti.

The Personal Assistant (PA) to Chief Falae, Captain Moshood Raji (retd.) said the herdsmen’s cattle destroyed many crops.

According to him, it was the police escorts of the elder statesman, who shot into the air to send the herdsmen out of the farm.

Odumakin said the matter had been reported to the police.

In a communique he read after the meeting, the Afenifere spokesman accused the Federal Government of showing no concern about the incessant attacks of Fulani herdsmen on residents of the Southwest and the Middle Belt.

He expressed worry over the renewed onslaught of Fulani herdsmen in Yoruba land.

Odumakin said: “Recently, a Permanent Secretary of Osun State origin, Mrs. Funke Kolawole, was killed on Okene-Lokoja Road on her way to Abuja.

“Also, another 72-year-old woman was recently gang-raped in Odigbo area of Ondo State and the hoodlums are yet to be brought to book and, of course, Chief Falae, whose farm has become a source of attacks by the Fulani herdsmen.”

He urged Southwest governors to emulate their Ekiti State counterpart by putting in place appropriate laws to deal with the activities of the herdsmen in the region.
