Wear Biafra emblem, risk arrest, says Abia CP

Abia State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Anthony Michael Ogbizi, has warned that anybody caught with Biafran insignia—muffler, hand band, shoes, hand fans, sticker, caps, among others—would be arrested.

This, he said, was because the military declared the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) as a terrorist organisation and it was subsequently proscribed by South East governors after their meeting in Enugu.

Ogbizi seized the opportunity to urge parents to warn their children and wards against being in possession of Biafran/IPOB insignia or be in the gathering or meetings of the outlawed group, as he stressed that the police would not fold its arms to watch any group of persons jeopardise the peace in Aba and the state in general through its activities.

Ogbizi, who disclosed that the policeman, an Assistant Superintendent of Police that was injured during the Ariaria invasion died in a hospital where he was receiving medical attention, said that efforts were already in place to arrest other fleeing members of the gang.

The Police Chief used the opportunity to assure members of the public of continued protection of their lives and property, stating that the police would not fold its arms to watch unscrupulous elements thwart the existing peace in the state and Aba in particular.

He also thanked the IGP, Ibrahim Idris, who he said “graciously” sent about 500 policemen that came in company of the AIG Operations Force Headquarters, Taiwo Lakanu, to work with the men that they had on ground to fortify security in the state.

While urging Abians and residents of the state to go about their lawful business without fear of being intimidated by any persons or group of persons, he also said that they would work together with other security agencies in the state to sustain the existing peace.
