Kwara completes installation of equipment at college

Kwara State government has completed installation of equipment and training tools at International Vocational, Technical and Entrepreneurship College (IVTEC), Ajase-Ipo, ahead of its inauguration.

Education and Human Capital Development Commissioner Musa Yeketi, yesterday in Ilorin, said the modern equipment and tools were for the five pioneering departments.

He said the departments are Masonry and Carpentry, Automotive, Electrical and Electronics, Welding, as well as Heating, Ventilation and Air-Conditioning.

Yeketi said the government was partnering World Bank under its Youth Employment and Social Support Operation (YESSO) programme to sponsor the first set of students.

He said the partnership was to allow youths from less privileged families to access training at the college, adding that beneficiaries would be selected across the 16 local governments as contained in YESSO database.

The commissioner said World Bank’s representative Prof. Foluso Okunmadewa and the YESSO Task Team leader had visited IVTEC to evaluate and consider areas of partnership.

He said the college had built a police post to ensure safety of workers, students and facilities.

The pioneer Rector of IVTEC, Dr. Wendy Kay Daeges, has resigned, following the death of her father and the need to return to the United States to take care of her aged mother.

The commissioner said the government has appointed Mr. Sunday Bello as registrar and Mr. Oladiran Ifeoluwa as IT systems manager.
