I5-year-old boxer, Kayode Mubarak from Kamlat Boxing Club thrilled boxing fans and was voted the best boxer of the month at the just concluded 85th edition of the Monthly Saturday Boxing Show organised by Lagos Boxing Hall of Fame at Mobolaji Johnson Sports Centre, Yaba, Lagos.
The Floyd Mayweather idolizing Mubarak, a SS3 student with Straight Route High School dominated Muarah Akano from Star Boxing Club in their 49kg bout to record a unanimous decision from the five judges at the ringside.
Mubarak, who started boxing when he was 8 years old, said he would continue to work hard in order to make it to the national junior team for African Youth Championships next year and is optimistic that his commitment to the sport would not affect his academic progress.
He also thanked the chairman of Lagos State Boxing Hall Of Fame, Olawale Edun for his commitment to the growth of boxing and urged other young boxers not to relent in their efforts to be successful in their chosen career.
In other bouts decided, Rasaq Erinfolami from Hard Punch Boxing Club lost to Rilwan Oloyo from Kamlat Boxing Club by a split decision in another 49kg bout while the 81kg division saw Fatai Balogun from Young Star Boxing Club beat Star Boxing Club’s Christian Obi also by a split decision.
Always Boxing Club’s Oluola Adewale defeated Ifeanyi Echeta of Champions Boxing Club in the 60kg weight class by a 3-0 unanimous decision while the 64kg bout saw Gafar Balogun of Champion Boxing Club walk over Owolabi Ishola of Confidence Boxing Club as the latter failed his medicals earlier in the day.
The two female 51kg bouts saw 2014 Governor’s Belt winner Aishat Oriyomi from Blessed Boxing Club defeated Olamide Mustapha of Smart Boxing Club by a split decision as Adeola Oyesiji of Always Boxing Club beat Mutuat Olokuola of Kamlat Boxing Club by a unanimous decision.
