A member of council of the Chartered Institute of Administration (CIA), Dr Noble Agugwa, has underscored the need for training by the institute, saying that universities ran outdated courses.
Speaking at a press conference to announce the institute’s second All Administrators’ National Conference holding Thursday and Friday next week at the Nigerian Air force Conference centre, Abuja, Agugwa said the institute offered better training and courses than universities.
“Most courses in the university are outdated and need to imbibe change, so this is where the institute comes in,” he said.
President of the Institute, George Chima said that studying administration in school was insufficient to becoming one in practice until such person gets professional training.
“Those who study administration courses in school are not to be called administrators until they have passed through the institute. It is all about been trained because there are ethics which go with the training,” he said.
The conference would feature a lecture on “Understanding the contemporary nature of administration in present Nigeria: the gaps and the challenges” on the first day and a training on the second day.
