NGF confirms Georgia Oboh for 2018 Youth Olympic Games

The Nigeria Golf Federation (NGF) has formally confirmed teenage sensation, Georgia Oboh as Nigeria’s flagbearer in the girls’ event of the 2018Youth Olympic Games in Argentina.

In a letter signed by the Secretary General of the Federation, Fakyns James and made available to NationSport, Georgia Oboh’s outstanding performance both at national and international tournaments have promoted NGF to select her for the multi-sports championship holding next year on October 6 to18 in Buenos-Aires.

“I am directed to inform you that the Nigeria Golf Federation is delighted on your recent performance and win at the 4th Awa Ibraheem Golf Open at Ikeja Golf Club on October 20 to 21, 2017. In line with the federation’s policy of rewarding outstanding performance, you have been selected based on your performance over the years, winning the world championship in Pinchurst in 2015and your performances in both national and international levels in 2016, to be the flag bearer of Nigeria in the girls’ category of the forthcoming Youth Olympic Games in Argentina in October 2018,” the scribe said.

The federation, however, wished the golf sensation good luck in her quest to bring glory to Nigeria come 2018.

3998 athletes between 15 to 18 years of age from 206 countries are expected to compete in 32 sports events. Outside the playing field, athletes also participate alongside spectators of educational and cultural activities that promote Olympism.

As part her build up to the games, Georgia Oboh is expected to compete in series of tournaments within and outside Nigeria.

Already, she has been listed for the $250,000 prize money Mongomo Cup holding in Equatorial Guinea in December.

At local level, she is expected to take part in tournaments across the country starting this weekend in Ilara, in Ogun State. Others are Ikoyi Ladies Open Tournament, maiden LPGA Nigeria in Abuja, LPGAN pro-am at the IBB Golf and Country Club Abuja.
