President Muhammadu Buhari has said appointees in his administration were appointed on merit.
Speaking at a dinner in his honour in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, he said he considered what was best for the country in his decisions.
Buhari, in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, said: ”Some of the people holding high positions in the government, like my ministers, will tell you that I didn’t know them from Adam.
‘‘I just came across their names from the records and I worked with the records. I thank God that I have a very good team.’’
The President hailed Governor David Umahi for his development strides, saying: ‘‘The commitment of the governor is remarkable. I am impressed.’’
Buhari, thanking God and Ebonyi people for recognising his modest contributions to the country’s development, described Nigeria as a great nation with massive resources and highly talented people.
‘‘We should continue to pray to God that the elite, who will be in-charge of the country in future fear God,’’ he said.
