Imo State Indigenes Association (ISIA), Kano, has awarded scholarship to three indigent pupils from Owerri, Okigwe and Orlu-the three senatorial zones of the state.
President-General of ISIA, Comrade Damian Anyanwu, said the gesture was the first of its kind and aimed at putting smiles on indigent, youths who lost their parents in their prime.
Anyawu said the idea was first initiated by his predecessor Chief Sydney Nwosu but shelved, due to challenges of insurgency.
”In awarding the scholarship, we were guided by the conviction that education is an investment, which is the best legacy to bequeath on our children as a pillar for survival,” Anyawu noted.
He promised that ISIA would in the near future, extend the gesture to three kids each from the aforementioned senatorial zones.
”We flagged off the scheme modestly; selecting three kids each, with indigent background, one each from the three senatorial zones of the state. Our projection is to upgrade the number of recipients to three students from each of the zones.”
Earlier in his address, chairman on the occasion Chief Donatus Nwogwu, said scheme is to fulfill the education dream of the fatherless in their community.
The three recipients are: Master Chineherem Duru, (11 years old); Precious Chukwuemeka, (8-years-old); and Chizom Onyejide.
Presenting a cheque to one of the beneficiaries, the Eze Ndigbo, Igwe Boniface Ibekwe, urged them to work extra hard to excel in their pursuit, so as to justify the scholarship award.
