Odoh, Willy want support for Georgia Oboh, others

Nigeria’s top golfers – Gift Willy and Oche Odoh believe teenage sensation, Georgia Oboh and other upcoming stars need support to become top stars.

They also believe that Oboh should use her participation at the 2017 3e Actuaries Open to get more exposure in order to improve her game.

Specifically, Willy, who is the men’s captain of the just concluded 2017 3e Actuaries Open charged the 2017 Lakowe Club Championship winner to see her maiden outing at the tournament as an avenue to learn from the professional players as an amateur.

“I think this is indeed a good experience for Georgia Oboh because at her age competing in tournament of this magnitude is a rare privilege. Not every player competes in such quality tournament at such age and she is indeed a player for the future and if she continues to compete internationally, she can be among the best. She just need to continue learning at this level because even if she wins the competition, she can only get medal as she is still an amateur. Also the Nigeria Golf Federation (NGF) should start thinking of supporting the young golfers because I must tell you that there are lot of talents scatter across the country and yet to be tapped. The NGF must identify the talents and support them to become global stars,” Willy said.

Odoh on his part lauded the presence of Oboh, whom he said has the prospect to be among the best but urged the teenage to get more exposure before turning pro. “I am so happy that player like Georgia Oboh is competing with the world’s best in this kind of competition. This is indeed a good development for her considering her age. I think for me her target is just to get exposure and give her best and use this opportunity to learn from the top players. She is good and she has a long way to go in golf. The young players need support and there must be an organized programme for junior players in the country,” the 2015 champion said.
