An unemployed man, Peter Nwabueze, who allegedly tried to abduct a baby, was arraigned at the Ebute-Meta Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, on Wednesday.
Nwabueze, 38, of an undisclosed address, was arraigned by the police before Mrs. Bola Folarin-Williams on a one count charge of attempted stealing.
Prosecuting police officer, Sgt. Kehinde Olatunde, said the incident occurred at 9:30 a.m. on November 13, at No. 4, Afolabi Close, Savage Gemade Estate, Lagos State.
He alleged that the defendant broke into the complainant, Mrs. Sherifat Ayorinde’s apartment and attempted to take one of her twins from the bed where he laid beside his brother and mother.
According to the prosecutor, Ayorinde’s scream attracted her neighbours, who ran into the apartment and helped apprehend the defendant.
Olatunde said the offence contravened Section 277 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 and punishable under same.
Nwabueze pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Chief Magistrate Folarin-Williams granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 bail with two sureties in like sum.
