Magistrate O.J Awope of an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court yesterday sentenced a 32-year-old labourer, Sulaimon Odedele, to 18 months for stealing a N1.2 million vehicle, belonging to Mr Olarenwaju Ayeni.

Magistrate Awope sentenced Odedele to imprisonment with hard labour, without option of fine, after he pleaded guilty to a two-count charge of unlawful entry and stealing.

Awope sentenced the convict to six months in prison for unlawful entering and one year for stealing.

The convict will, however, spend one year in prison as the sentences will run concurrently.

She said the sentences were imposed to serve as a deterrent to others, who might want to engage in similar acts.

The prosecutor, Ezekiel Ayorinde, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) told the court that the convict committed the offence on November 25 at Ayobo area of Lagos.

According to him, the convict, who lives in Ota, Ogun State, absconded with the company’s vehicle, where he works.

Ayorinde said the complainant employed the accused in his block industry as a loader of blocks on November 21 but absconded with his vehicle four days after he was employed.
