The police in Ogun State have arrested a labourer in a rice plantation for robbery and attempted murder.
Jacob Monday was said to have attacked Ale Dare, the supervisor of the rice farm at Alabata in Obafemi Owode Local Government on December 19 when he was about pay labourers.
It was learnt that the suspect after collecting his wages, struck the supervisor on the head with a club, and inflicted several cuts on him with a cutlass.
Following a report at the police station in Owode-Egba, the suspect was arrested on January 2.
Police spokesperson Abimbola Oyeyemi, in a statement, said the case was reported by a worker, Kamoru Akanbi, who complained at the Owode Egba Division that Dare was attacked at the farm.
Abimbola added that the suspect bolted away with other labourers’ wages.
He explained that when other labourers waited for the supervisor to inspect their work, they went to check on him at the suspect’s corner. They saw the supervisor in a pool of his blood.
“The DPO Owode Egba Division Sheu Alao, a chief superintendent (CSP) detailed detectives to the scene, where the victim was quickly rushed to a hospital.
“The suspect was later trailed and tracked down to Kabba in Kogi State where he was arrested and brought down to Owode Egba Division.
“The Commissioner of Police, Ahmed iliyasu, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (F-SARS) for investigation and prosecution,” she said.
