Ortom orders arrest of Makurdi rioters

Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom has ordered security agencies to go after Makurdi rioters and bring them to book.

Ortom, who spoke at the expanded Security Council meeting at the Government House in Makurdi, said offenders must face the law to deter others.

His words: “Everybody found wanting in the disturbance must be arrested and prosecuted, including their sponsors,” he said.

The governor also stressed that there was no going back on the anti-open grazing law, saying it is the global practice world over.

“There is killing by herdsmen in Taraba, Adamawa, Jos and any other place without grazing law, so nobody should say Fulani herdsmen are killing people in Benue State because of the grazing law”.

According to him, killings have been on in Benue for so long before he came out with a solution through Open Grazing Prohibition Law. “The Law is for Benue, and anyone who chooses to live in Benue State and go into livestock farming must comply,” he stressed.
