President Muhammadu Buhari has sent a condolence message to the family of the late Senator Ali Wakili (Bauchi South).
The President yesterday sent a delegation to the state to commiserate with the people and family of the deceased.
A statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, said the delegation was led by the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu.
Others are Chief of Staff Abba Kyari, FCT Minister Mohammed Musa Bello and the Minister of State Power, Works and Housing, Sulaiman Hassan, among others.
In separate letters to the Emir of Bauchi, Alhaji Rilwan Adamu, and the deceased’s elder brother, Mohammed, Buhari said he received the news with shock and sadness.
The letters read: “By a common consent, Senator Ali Wakili was a noted and indefatigable member of the Senate who lived a simple yet purposeful life, and to the end, he played politics of commitment to a cause. There is no doubt he would be remembered as a capable and principled representative of his senatorial district and Nigerian.”
The All Progressives Congress (APC) also codoled with the family.
The party expressed its condolences to the deceased’s family, the Eighth Senate, National Assembly, government and people of Bauchi State on the painful loss.
A statement by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, said: “The APC mourns the grassroots politician who distinguished himself during his work with the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and as a federal lawmaker.
“Indeed, the country has lost one of its most vibrant and patriotic lawmakers, whose contributions and engagements in the National Assembly touched on the core needs of less privileged Nigerians, particularly through his Chairmanship of the Senate Committee on Poverty Alleviation and social welfare.
“The APC prays God to grant him eternal rest, and the family and loved ones the strength to bear the loss.”
