A 25-year-old tricycle rider, Oluwole Odebo, who allegedly stole his passenger‘s phones, valued at N200,000, has appeared at an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
Odebo, who lives at 40, Market Street, Isale Oja, Agege, a Lagos suburb, is standing trial for alleged theft and causing a breach of the peace.
The prosecutor, Akeem Raji, told the court that the accused allegedly committed the offences on February 14 at Abule Egba, near Lagos.
He said the complainant, Mr. Musa Bilyaminu, boarded a tricycle from Ikeja to Abule Egba and was with the phones he had just bought.
“The complainant bought N200,000 worth of phones at Ikeja and forgot the bag containing the goods in the tricycle when he got to Abule Egba.
“A few minutes after he alighted, Odebo remembered that he was carrying a bag containing the goods,” the prosecutor alleged.
He said the complainant searched for the tricycle he alighted from, to no avail.
“The complainant reported the case at the tricycle park and described how the accused looked like.
“Efforts made by the complainant to locate the accused proved abortive, until he was seen at Abule Egba garage,” Raji said.
He said the chairman of the park handed over the accused to the police.
The prosecutor said the offences contravened sections 168 and 280 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.
Chief Magistrate T. O. Shomade granted the accused bail at N200,000 with two sureties.
He adjourned the case till April 27 for mention.
