Police decry increasing motorcycle theft

The police have assured residents of Zonkwa in Zangon Kataf Local Government of Kaduna State that it was working to halt motorcycle thefts.

Divisional Police Officer Sunday Dangana told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) yesterday in Zonkwa that the police had taken measures to arrest the perpetrators.

He called for vigilance by the public, so that the trend would be curbed.

Dangana said: “There have been reports of motorcycle theft, especially on bank premises, following lack of secure parking spaces for customers.’’

He said although the security of a bank was a joint effort of its management and the police, the public should assist in monitoring criminals.

The Manager, United Bank for Africa, Zonkwa, Mr. Uche Izundu, lamented the development, saying the bank had stepped up measures to stem the tide.

He urged customers to be vigilant while parking cars and motorcycles.

According to him, the bank would provide secure parking spaces for customers.

A victim, Mr. Stephen Dodo, told NAN that his motorcycle was stolen recently before he concluded banking transaction.

“It happened within split seconds; I couldn’t believe my eyes,’’ he said.

Dodo urged the bank management to provide a secure parking space to minimise theft.
