State Assemblies’ Speakers express shock at Adeyemo’s death

THE Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria has described the sudden death of one of its members and Speaker of Oyo State House of Assembly, Michael Adeyemo, as shocking and devastating.

The Speakers said Adeyemo’s death has robbed the country of an eminent political leader.

Adeyemo, who died on Friday after a brief illness, until his death served the conference as the Southwest Vice Chairman and the Chairman, Technical Committee on the 1999 Constitution amendments.

In a statement by the Conference Chairman Samaila Kamba, the Speakers said Adeyemo was a rear leader, who earned the love and admiration of the people for his straightforwardness, excellent sense of public service, simplicity and honesty.

Describing the late Speaker as a personal friend, true brother and dependable ally, Kamba said: “The death of Adeyemo is a great loss to all of us.

“I’m short of words to describe how devastated and heart-broken, we lost a true friend, brother and confidant, with whom I had excellent relationship and association.

“We have indeed lost a distinguished parliamentarian, easy going and courageous person who had worked tirelessly both in and outside the state to defend the interest of his constituents.

“He is a worthy ambassador and a distinguished gentleman. But we’ll take solace in the fact that his humanitarian services and other accomplishments will continue to be a source of inspiration to us all.

“Our deep condolences and sympathies go to the bereaved families, the management and members of Oyo State House of Assembly and the government and people of Oyo State. We pray God to grant the departed soul eternal rest and the family members the fortitude to bear the great lost.”
