A Minna Magistrates’ Court in Niger State at the weekend sentenced a 25-year-old farmer, Tanko Yau, to seven years’ imprisonment for having carnal knowledge of a 13-year-old girl.
Magistrate Binta Rijau convicted Yau on April 20, but reserved sentencing after he pleaded guilty to a one-count charge of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor.
Prosecutor Gunduma Ibrahim told the court that Mohammed Bello reported the matter at the police station on April 10.
He said the complainant alleged that the accused lured his daughter to his room and had sexual intercourse with her on April 9 about 6pm.
