A 48-year-old proprietor of El-Supreme Private School, Ikorodu, Lagos State, Joshua Adeniyi, was yesterday remanded at Kirikiri Prisons.
He was arraigned at an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly conducting an illegal Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE).
Chief Magistrate A. O. Adedayo said the accused should remain in custody pending the time he meets his bail conditions.
The magistrate had admitted the accused to bail at N2 million with two sureties.
She said the sureties should be employed with an evidence of two years’ tax payment.
The accused is facing a six-count charge of forgery, fraud, stealing, conspiracy and breach of the peace.
He pleaded not guilty.
Prosecutor Raphael Donny told the court the accused committed the offences in March in the school.
He said the accused, with others at large, conducted themselves in a manner likely to breach the peace by obtaining N6.12 million from unsuspected candidates.
Donny said Mr. Ojo Idowu, WAEC’s deputy registrar and zonal coordinator in Ikorodu received a letter from a parent accusing the suspect of conducting the examination.
The offences contravene sections 168, 287, 314, 322, 329 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).
The magistrate adjourned the case till May 30.
