Eleven years after the last local government election was held in Oyo State, the electorate will on Saturday go to the polls for a local government election. Also, the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC) yesterday announced restriction of vehicular movements across the state during the conduct of the council poll from 8 a.m to 3 p.m.
The commission said students sitting for the National Board of Technical Examination (NABTEB) with proofs will be allowed till 8 a.m to move to their examination centres.
It added that election will hold in the 33 local government areas and 35 Local Councils Development Areas (LCDAs).
OYSIEC urged the electorate to vote for their preferred candidates.
The poll is coming 11 years after the last one conducted by former Governor Rashidi Ladoja’s administration.
Candidates were canvassing for votes yesterday in different parts of the state.
The candidates are mainly of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) as other major political parties have vowed not to participate in the exercise.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) said it would amount to validating illegality by participating in an election into the 35 LCDAs, which it described as unconstitutional.
The Alliance for Democracy (AD) accused the APC of insincerity in conducting a free and fair election.
