The Senior Pastor of Praise Arena, Pastor Jummy Adetoyese-Olagunju has appealed to state governments across the country to reintroduce moral instruction as a main subject in the educational mainstream curriculum and set up programmes that would help in celebrating honesty, faithfulness and patriotism among youths within their states.
Olagunju made this known at the 2018 couple’s dinner organized by the church at the weekend in Lagos, tagged “Stronger Bond, Greater Joy”, brought together hundreds of Families and Christians faithful which featured song rendition, teachings, counseling, and prophetic declaration on homes.
According to him, we would only be building learned monsters that are not humane, and unpatriotic if moral instruction is not reintroduced back into the Nigerian educational curriculum.
“there are more educated people in position of authority across the country but recent statistics shows that Nigeria is still high up in the global corruption index. Corruption in leadership position is worrisome and is because the needed moral values that is needed to have been instilled in them when they were ordinarily citizens is missing thus, they cannot give what they do not have” he said.
“People in position of authority were ordinarily citizens without any title or portfolio but how much of investment on sense of responsibility, truthfulness, respect for the rule of law and due consideration for the plight of others were made on them that would have made a big difference when they get to positions of authority”.
“we need to reintroduce moral instruction as main subject that will teach leadership, selfless service, patriotism, respect for rule of law, and compulsory community service which would prepare today’s children to become selfless leaders who will serve the Nation with love of the people in mind”.
The cleric also said corruption will be nipped in the bud when honesty, and transparent lifestyle are celebrated and rewarded in schools across the country.
“Children, who found and return stolen money or items should be celebrated because when we do, other children will emulate it and they will be competing to do good”. In my childhood days, a jingle was run on radio to exemplify and instill patriotism and honesty among young people, adding that we need to set up monuments and pillars to celebrate good people, especially the youths making positive changes in our society”.
“I read recently about the child of one of the richest men in Canada, who was happy picking up trash in a Recreational Park and helping to wash clothes in old people’s home under the community service developed as part of the curriculum in High Schools. These acts of love and selfless service would instill good leadership character in the child as he grows up”.
The dinner provide an avenue for couples to bond together, get necessary information and counsel that will help their marriage to blossom.
