The Centre Against Injustice and Domestic Violence (CAIDOV) has supported the call for the probe of the recent allegation made by President Muhammadu Buhari against former President Olusegun Obasanjo over $16bn power projects when the latter held sway as the country’s number one citizen with no tangible results.
A statement made available to journalists in Lagos by the CAIDOV and signed by its Director, Comrade Gbenga Soloki, backed the probe in the interest of justice.
The statement reads: “ This issue of $16b on electricity has been in the public domain for a long time, but no president after Obasanjo’s administration has been this bold to raise it publicly. It is on this note that the issue should not be waved aside. It needs our attention. President Buhari cannot just make such a heavy allegation without having substantial evidence on his table. “In other climes, past leaders have been tried for corrupt practices and jailed. Even, South Africa here is not left out, trying its past leaders or subjecting them to questioning on account of their stewardship. Ours should not be different. If Obasanjo is found guilty, he should face the music.’’
Soloki further said: “It is good that things are playing out like this, as this would send a strong signal to our politicians that it is no longer business as usual.”
The CAIDOV boss, therefore, called on the EFCC and other agencies to swing into action and not to see the president’s allegation as mere political statement.
