The Nigeria Association of Technologists in Engineering (NATE) has inaugurated the Egbin chapter at Ikorodu, Lagos. It focused on the responsibilities of technologists in the Nigerian power industry.
The chapter is to articulate views of Nigerians towards the socio-economic development of the association.
Chairman of the chapter, Engr. Awoleye Matthew said: “There is a development programme which will motivate and encourage the member to a greater height. The focus is not only on theory but on how to accomplish the practical aspect and completion of a design.”
He urge the state branch and national leadership of the association to formulate policy through which members and intending members should not be interested mainly in obtaining the association’s certificates but must be ready to deploy their wealth of knowledge, skills and resources to achieve the high standard of professionalism the association is aspiring to.
The National Deputy President of the association, Engr. Omopariola Issac, said NATE is the fastest growing professional body in Nigeria to oversee and superintend not only the affairs of graduates of polytechnic institutions but also for the general benefit of all graduates of technology whether from polytechnic or university.
Continuing, he said: “According to the motto of the association, they are promoting the growth of engineering profession in Nigeria. To make the nation technologically self-reliant, adding that NATE will be the fulcrum to fulfill the dream.
He said the association will use technologists to end unemployment among graduates of technology.
Technologists often work with engineers in a wide variety of projects by applying basic engineering principles and skills; and after many years of experience, they can also lead other engineers.
For the association to achieve greatness, a nation-wide membership examination/interview has been slated across the six geo-political zones which will hold at the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the Polytechnic Ibadan on June 9 at 10:00 a.m.
Engr. Nwafor Obiannu said: “In terms of human development, if there is no technologist, the world will not be where it is today. Engineering is the body of civilisation. It encompasses communication, transport, capital development, power sector and many others.
