FRSC seeks inclusion of road safety in curriculum

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has said teaching of basic road safety rudiments in schools will help children cultivate positive road habits.

The Lagos and Ogun Zonal Commander, Assistant Corps Marshal John Meheux spoke at a stakeholders’ sensitisation forum on the implementation of road safety education curriculum in Lagos schools.

According to him, it is better to impact the knowledge of proper road use in children because it will build their capacity and knowledge of doing the right thing when they become mature.

He said the FRSC, in conjunction with the National Education Research and Development Council (NERDC), has begun implementing the Youth Safety Education (YSE) in primary and junior secondary schools to ensure that basic road safety drills are inculcated in the children through the teaching of Civic Education, English Language, Social Studies, Basic Science and Technology subjects.

He urged schools to support FRSC by infusing safety education into their curricula.

Lagos Sector Commander Hyginus Omeje urged the government and individuals to support the Corps by printing the subjects textbooks either free or at cheaper rates to distribute to schools, saying it will help reduce or eradicate crashes.
