The Oyo/Osun Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has said it made over N9 billion as revenue for the Federal Government within five months.
The amount, which was generated between January and May, represents 38 per cent of the revenue target the government gave the command.
Addressing reporters yesterday at the command’s headquarters at Bodija in Ibadan, the Area Controller Christopher Odibu said the amount was part of the N24.2 billion annual revenue target the Federal Government mandated the command to generate.
Lauding the zeal of his officers in their operations, the NCS chief said the amount was generated mainly from excise factories, despite some challenges facing the command.
He added: “It is important to highlight the achievements of the command from January to May this year. During the period under review, the command generated N9,436,241, 792.56 to the coffers of the government, mainly from excise factories. The figure represents 38 per cent of the revenue target given to the command.”
The command said it arrested eight suspects for alleged economic sabotage and seized goods valued at N50 million at the borders under the command.
The controller said the seizures comprised of fairly used cars (Tokunbo), trucks loaded with contraband and buses conveying bags of rice, vegetable oil and other contraband, using yams and firewood as camouflage.
