The Akoko Unit of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ondo State yesterday presented N500,000 recovered from the scene of an accident to the owners.
The accident occurred recently at the dreadful Oke-Maria in Oka-Akoko, headquarters of Akoko Southwest Local Government Area, where some travellers died, property lost and many vehicles burnt with valuables.
The amount was refunded to the owners and families of the deceased.
The new Ondo Sector Commander of the FRSC, Commander Rotimi Adeleye, who was represented by Ikare Unit Commander, Jimoh Basiru, recalled that some market women coming from North and heading to Ibadan were involved in the accident.
He said road safety is a collective responsibility of all drivers and passengers.
According to him, when driver overspeed, it is the responsibility of the passengers to check him, since its impact would affect the driver of the vehicle involved in accident both will be affected..
He said FRSC would not condone situation where accidents victim’s money and belongings will be tampered with by anybody.
One of the beneficiaries, Mrs Funmi Okunola hailed the Agency.
She urged others to emulate the gesture, noting that in spite of the harsh economy, FRSC officials could still be honest
