The new President of Rotary Club of Omole-Golden, District 9110, Nigeria, Rotn. Ibironke Alaba, has urged the Federal Government to emulate the club’s succession plan.
This, she said, would promote good leadership and put Nigeria on a sound footing.
Alaba, a surveyor, spoke at the weekend in Ogba, Ikeja, Lagos at the Golden Handover Fellowship, after the immediate past president, Rotn. Abiodun Oshinibosi, handed over the mantle of leadership to her.
She hailed Rotary’s succession plan, saying it was superb.
Alaba said: “For three years, you will know what you are supposed to do. You will start by being nominated as a president-nominee. The following year, you will become a president-elect, giving you the ample opportunity to prepare for the job.
“You will serve as president for one year. If the government can imitate Rotary’s succession plan, there will be peace, everything will be fine.
“Rotary grooms good leaders. What we lack in the nation is good leadership. The government should copy Rotary’s virtue, its leadership style, to restore the country’s glory.”
She praised Oshinibosi and other past presidents for their achievements, vowing to follow their footsteps.
According to her, “Rotary Club is an entity known for doing good things and ensuring that things are done properly. I pray that I will surpass the achievements of Oshinibosi and others so that my successor will continue from where I will stop.”
Alaba said women should be allowed to rule “because they are good managers.”
A past president, Rotn. Kayode Owolabi, said Alaba is a leader of repute, adding: “She has held offices in her professional body. We have no doubt that she will perform and even exceed our expectations.”
Rotn. Adedayo Ajose described the new president as a leader par excellence, a cheerful giver, upright and dependable.
