The National Vice Chairman of the National Fish Association of Nigeria (NFAN) South West, Sam Olubodun, has urged governors to reconstitute their state’s Products Marketing Boards to provide markets for farmers to showcase their products to buyers and prevent wastage.
He spoke after he was elected vice chairman of the association in Abuja. Dr. Emiola Ogunsanya was elected chairman.
Olubodun, who is the chairman of Beulah Fish Farm, Ifo, Ogun State, lauded the Federal Government for introducing the Anchor Borrower Scheme, on the platform of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), to provide loans to farmers at less than two digit interest rates.
According to him, the gesture has helped farmers to improve and expand their farms, which would eventually increase food and reduce shortages.
He hoped that food importation would soon be forgotten, and appealed to governments to continue to make the environment conducive for farmers to guarantee their investment.
The vice chairman encouraged youths to take to fishing instead of searching for limited white collar jobs to ensure food security in the country.
