AS accredited lawyers elect new national officers for the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) from tomorrow to run the affairs of the NBA for the next two years, President of Igbo Lawyers Association, (Otu-Okaiwu) Chief Chuks Ikokwu has explained why the association adopted Chief Arthur Obi Okafor (SAN) to fly the flag of the association in this election by giving him the traditional staff called “offor”
Speaking with The Nation, Ikokwu said: Chief Okafor (SAN) is a consummate Bar man, he is a Bar per excellence who has remained consistent at the Bar since he appeared on its political space. He is not tainted with corruption nor has anybody accused him of any wrong doing.
‘’Since it is the turn of the East to produce NBA President this time round and the Eastern Bar Forum (EBF), has adopted him, the Body of Senior Advocates of Nigeria (BOSAN) South East chapter has adopted him, invariably we are bound by the action of those organizations one way or the other, so every Igbo man must vote for Chief Arthur Obi Okafor for NBA President.
You will recall that the Mid-West Bar Forum adopted him recently and the Middle Belt Lawyers Forum gave him a conditional adoption.
What else remains? Everybody should support and vote for him to lead the Bar as the President this time around, every other person should wait for his turn next time.
“If you look at his manifesto and ‘All inclusive Bar’ philosophy you, don’t need a prophet to tell you that he will restore the glory of the Bar For instance, his mission ‘to advance the legal profession in Nigeria and enhance the welfare of lawyers through the running of an all inclusive Bar with efficient services, unmatched collaborative opportunities and partnerships, as well as globalized practice and professional development.’’
