Task force officers set for training

Nigeria Police personnel attached to the ‘Active Combating and Readiness Unit’ of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation and Special Offences (Enforcement) Unit (Task force) are to be trained by the Lagos State Government.

The training programme, which would be in four batches, will commence today at the Police Training School, Ikeja, Lagos.

Task force’s Chairman Olayinka Egbeyemi, a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) said as crime becomes more complex, the officers charged with enforcing the laws must be open to new and constantly evolving policing philosophies.

The training, he said, would help officers to override natural inclinations, biases or any reservation they encounter in the line of their duty.

Commissioner of Police Edgal Imohimi hailed Governor Akinwunmi Ambode for supporting security personnel with modernised equipment and relevant training programmes.

Imohimi said adequate training and provisions of modernised security equipment by the government had brought about massive reduction in the rate of crime across the state.

“The very nature of policing requires officers to interact with the general public, and they should have problem-solving skills, while being polite and professional at the same time,” he said.
