Three in court for ‘stealing’ machines

Three men, Abdullahi Yahaya, Husseni Ibrahim and Musa Abimiku, yesterday appeared at an Oredo Magistrates’ Court in Benin City, Edo State, for allegedly stealing two sewing machines, worth N66,000.

They were also alleged to have stolen an electric iron, valued at N5,000, scissors, which cost N500, and 10 pieces of women wrapper, worth N50,000.

The accused are facing charges of conspiracy and stealing.

Prosecutor Patrick Agbonifo said the offences were committed on May 10, at Okundia Street, Benin City.

He said the items belonged to Chukwu Oko.

Agbonifo told the court the offences were punishable under sections 576, 414, 390(9) and 427 of the Criminal Code, Cap 48, Vol. II, Laws of the defunct Bendel State, now applicable in Edo State. The accused pleaded not guilty.

Magistrate Mrs. I.A Osayande granted the accused bail at N140,000 each and a surety.

She said the sureties must live in the court jurisdiction.

Osayande adjourned the case till August 24 for hearing.
