Man docked for ‘stealing’ N2.4m batteries

A 60-year-old man, Remigious Dada, has been arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing+ 24 back-up batteries valued at N2.4 million.

Dada, whose address was not given, is facing a charge of stealing.

The prosecutor, Inspector Monica Ikebuilo, told the court that the defendant and others on the run allegedly committed the offence on August 6 at 2 a.m at Oke Oniyo Street in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.

The police officer said the accused and others on the run allegedly stole the batteries, property of MTN Communication Company.

She said the offence contravene Section 390 (9) of the Criminal Code, Law of Ekiti State, 2012.

Ikebuilo urged the court to adjourn the matter to enable her study the case file and assemble her witnesses.

The defendant pleaded not guilty, and his lawyer, Gbenga Bejide, urged the court to grant him bail.

He promised that the accused would not jump bail.

The Magistrate, Mrs Omolola Akosile, granted the accused bail for N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Mrs Akosile adjourned the matter till September 20 for hearing.
