All Progressives Congress (APC) has been assigned the task of instituting measures and implementing policies that would save the masses of Nigerians from challenges of poverty and underdevelopment, the governorship candidate of the party, Mr Gboyega Oyetola has said.
Oyetola, clarified this during his visits to some communities in Osogbo, capital of the state, and while hosting some groups in his Ileri Oluwa Situation office, also in the state capital.
Oyetola, who represented outgoing Governor Rauf Aregbesola at a parley with Owo-ope residents in Osogbo, explained the astounding developmental achievements of the governor, including several completed road projects, O Meal, O Yess, Millennium School Buildings and allied programmes, were possible only with a progressive party like the APC.
He said: “The 16-year misrule of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and utter lack of direction in the country during the period had foundations in the philosophy of the (PDP) party as a non-progressive”, a situation which, according to him, made it very easy for the country’s leaders at the time to implement programmes that unfavoured those they ruled over.
A statement by Gboyega Oyetola Media Office, explained the governorship hopeful, who spoke urbane Yoruba, noted: “The parties that are also struggling with us, what can you point to as their achievements? APC, the broom party, is ordained by God for the masses. You can see what we have done, but we are just starting.
“We will make Osogbo Dubai of Nigeria. We seek your support for 22 September. Your opportunity now is that I know where we are already in terms of programmes and policies, and I know where we are going. I also do know where we are in the development of Osogbo.
“Let us talk to our youth not to be seduced by opposition’s N5000 gift which they now go about giving the people to buy them off the redeeming course. Your tomorrow is greater than N5,000. Can N5,000 take care of your lives? Our party has plans for you. This coming government will take care of youths and elders.
“Before we came in 8 years ago, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had been in power for 16 years. Nothing to show for it. Aregbesola sent me to tell you that he is rounding up truly, but will be staying among you in Osogbo,” Oyetola said.
In attendance at the packed event were the State party chairman, Prince Gboyega Famodun; the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Dr. Ajibola Bashir; Director General, Oyetola Campaign Organisation (OCO); Hon. Ajibola Famurewa and the Commissioner for Sports, Hon. Biyi Odunlade, alongside party leaders in Olorunda.
Famodun, wondering the quantum of attention given to Osogbo by governor Aregbesola, noted: “No one can believe Aregbesola is not from Osogbo. This road we are standing on is constructed by Aregbesola. All schools around you here, including Ansar-Ud-Deen, Alll Saints and St James, have been completely renovated and reroofed by Aregbesola. Your children across the schools now eat free meals everyday.’’
Urging Owo-ope residents to vote massively for APC, Famodun said: “There is no time since the return of democracy that our progressive party did not win all polling units in Osogbo. Just as you supported Aregbesola, you must support Oyetola. The foundation of development laid by Aregbesola must be built on by Oyetola.
