Three All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives aspirants in Ekiti North Federal Constituency 1 of Ekiti State, have rejected the results of the primary election conducted on Friday. They called on the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) to cancel the result ,alleging that there were no voting in Oye and Ikole local government areas that make up the constituency.
The aspirants include the lawmaker who represented the federal constituency between 2011 and 2015, Mr. Bimbo Daramola; former House of Assembly Service Commission Chairman, Chief Bunmi Ogunleye and another party chieftain, Mr. Femi Ajayi. They addressed a joint news conference in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, on Saturday where their supporters staged a protest alleging that results from various wards were concocted for the primary poll winner, Mr. Peter Owolabi.
The aggrieved aspirants accused the Electoral Committee led by Dr. Ibrahim Sule of allegedly manipulating the process and denied many party members of voting at the primary. Daramola said: “What we saw yesterday (Friday) in Ekiti North Federal Constituency 1was a travesty, it wasn’t a reflection of the people’s will. The result announced for our brother, Owolabi, was a disappointment and brazen desecration of democracy in our land.
Ogunleye alleged that democracy was “murdered” in the constituency with the way the shadow poll was conducted in the federal constituency. Ajayi, who alleged that “results were written elsewhere in an exercise where no voting took place.”
