An Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos has remanded a 34-year-old man, Idris Habib, accused of bludgeoning a man to death.
Habib, whose address was not provided, is facing murder charge.
Chief Magistrate O.O. Olatunji did not take his plea because the court lacks jurisdiction to try murder.
He ordered Habib to be remanded in Ikoyi Prison. He directed that the case file be duplicated and forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice and adjourned the case till November 8.
Cyril Ejiofor, a police counsel, told the court that the accused committed the offence on August 22, at 3:20pm, at Abijo, Ibeju Lekki, Lagos.
He said the accused, during an altercation, hit the deceased, Kehinde Bakare, 43, on the head with a plank. He became unconsciousness and later died in hospital.
The offence contravenes Section 223 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
