Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi has set up a visitation panel for the state-owned university, Ado-Ekiti.
The government broke the news on the 11-man visitation panel in Executive Order 003 the governor signed yesterday.
The Ekiti State University Ado-Ekiti Law, 2011, provides that the governor shall be its Visitor.
The law also provides that the visitor shall undertake a visitation of the university or direct that such a visitation be conducted once every five years.
Members of the visitation panel are: Prof. Bode Asubiojo (Chairman), Mr. Ayo Ogunruku, Prof. Rufus Taiwo Akinyele, Prof. Femi Akinwumi, Dr. Femi Orebe, Dr. Hakeem Bakare, Dr. (Mrs) Modupe Ajayi, Akinwale Ayodeji, Prof. Chiedu Mafiana, Biodun Fasakin and Mr. Jide Akinleye (Secretary).
A statement yesterday in Ado-Ekiti, the state apital, by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Yinka Oyebode, said the panel is empowered to:
- Enquire into the level of implementation of the White Paper on the last Visitation Panel Report in 2007.
- Evaluate the leadership quality of the university in the roles of its Governing Council, the vice-chancellor and other principal officers.
- Examine the financial management of the university, including statutory allocations and internally generated revenue (IGR) on the recommended period and determine whether it was in compliance with appropriate regulations, statutes, acts and laws of the university.
- Investigate the application of funds, particularly special grants, loans meant for specific projects in order to determine the status of such projects and their relevance for further funding.
- Determine the adequacy or otherwise of staff and examine the quality of its workers’ development programmes.
- Examine the “Law” establishing the university, including the relationship between the various internal organs, units and offices (such as the Registry, Bursary, Works and Services, Health Services, Departments/Faculties/Colleges, among others) and indicate the ways that the law has been observed by the competent authorities and suggest any modifications to the law considered necessary or desirable to enable the university to better achieve its objectives.
The panel is to submit its reports and recommendations to the governor not later than December 10.
