Man seeks divorce from ‘disobedient wife’

A 50-year-old man, Muritala Oladehinde, has urged a Mushin Customary Court in Lagos to dissolve his 11-year-old marriage, because his wife, Morufat Oladeyinde, 37, is not obeying his order.

Muritala, a civil servant, said he was no longer interested in the marriage.

Their marriage was blessed with three children.

He also sought the custody of their children.

According to him, Morufat disobeyed his order not to going to church.

“My wife goes to a white garment church, Cherubim and Seraphim (C&S) without my approval, and I have warned her severally to stop going there.

“There was a day I was called upon by a church member she attends to come over and fetch my kids. On getting to the church, I met my wife mentally deranged, recognising neither me nor the children. And I learnt she will be using seven days in the church because she’s on trance,” he said.

He also claimed that his wife keeps unmarried and divorce friends, which he is not happy about.

“My wife keeps friend that cannot help our home. All they can do is to destroy it, and I am not contended with that, and I have warned her about it but she never listen,” he said.

Morufat said she only goes to church because the church assisted her husband when he was ill.

“When things got hard, my husband became very sick, my children cried when asleep and I also do have terrible dreams, this became difficult for me to handle. That is why I attended the church. And fortunately for me, I stopped having the terrible dreams I used to, my children have stopped crying and my husband is well now.

“My husband has followed me there before, but decided to stop going when he was healed. But I have also stopped going when he became so persistent,” she said.

She denied disobeying her husband, saying that she wants her husband to get her established because she does not like being “full house wife.”

“Though he pays all the bills, but there are times I would need somethings that I would need instantly and can’t wait for him. All he wants is to meet his food and I at home whenever he gets home. He does not want me to have friends at all or leave the house,” she said.

Mrs Rose Akimbo, Mrs. E.E. Amuka-Pemu, Mrs. N.M. Fashanu and Mr. S.O. Odukoya, who presided over their matter, urged the couple to maintain peace pending the outcome of their mediation.
