Akwa Ibom lawmaker loses seat for defecting to APC

A councillor in Etim Ekpo Local Government, Mr. Usen John Akpan, has lost his seat in the council’s legislative chamber for defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The councillor dumped PDP, and declared for APC last  weekend at the country home of former Senate Minority leader Godswill Akpabio.

Akpan is accused of breaching the Local Government Administration Law by the Chairman of Etim Ekpo Ward II, Aniekan Linus Umoh.

At an emergency sitting of the House yesterday, nine lawmakers declared Akpan’s seat vacant, citing Section 32 (I) (g) of the Local Government (Administration) Law of Akwa Ibom State CAP 80 as amended.
